Joanna Strand Brings FLYING TRANSATLANTIC to the Metropolitan Room, 10/28 & 29
Joanna Strand will make her New York cabaret debut at The Metropolitan Room (34 West 22nd Street – between 5th & 6th Avenues) in "Fly Transatlantic," described as "an epic, yet beautifully contemplative, journey of musical discovery." Performances are Sunday, October 28 and Monday, October 29 at 9:30 p.m. There is a $20 music charge and a 2-drink minimum requirement. For reservations please call 212-206-0440 or visit www.metropolitanroom.com.
On a journey across the Atlantic Ocean, just as Kathy followed Paul Simon, Joanna Strand travels from her native England on a voyage of love, discovery and yearning to celebrate the songs of composers who have ventured across the pond. "Fly Transatlantic" includes THE MUSICAL collaborations of Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello, Michel Legrand and Alan & Marilyn Bergman, as well as songs by fellow travelers including Vernon Duke, Sergio Mendes and Francis Poulenc, alongside those Americans who lost their hearts in England – Jerome Kern and Paul Simon. Ms. Strand will be supported by her band led by her musical director John Bailey.
"I have traveled on a long journey to find my voice," explains Ms. Strand. "Not my singing voice; I always could sing and always did sing, but to find how and why to sing - and what to sing. That has been my journey. Fly Transatlantic is an allegory for my finding the courage to stand up as Joanna Strand - not a character in a play or opera, but as me, offering my choice of songs, sung in my way to my own arrangements. This is the bravest and most satisfying journey I've ever taken."
