Natalie Douglas - The Teller Of Truth

One of the cabaret industry's true success stories, Natalie Douglas is one of the most decorated performers in the business. She is also one of the most socially conscious, if not the most, or, at least, for the longest amount of time. It would be so easy to coast on her inimitable performance style and smooth-as-silk voice but Natalie Douglas is a woman whose personality has been as much a part of her club act as her vocals, all these years. Natalie has always shared stories about her life as a black woman, about her thoughts, philosophies, and lessons learned and taught regarding the black experience, prejudice and bigotry. Ms. Douglas has used her popular TRIBUTES series to highlight artists like Nina Simone, Sammy Davis Jr., Nancy Wilson, Nat King Cole, and Roberta Flack to illustrate how their lives and their artistry informed her own, and how their lives and artistry could inform all our lives. And when people have asked her, to her face, why she talks about being black so much during her shows, Natalie Douglas has set them straight and, hopefully, set them on the right path. Some artists come to tell stories, some artists come to make laughter, some artists come to entertain, some artists come to illuminate. Natalie Douglas does it all, and just when you think she has done it all, she takes it all one level higher, as a master class teacher in the art of live performance.

Natalie Douglas is the supershero of cabaret, able to leap closed-mindedness in a single note. And, somewhere in her closet, you can bet she's got the cape.

Natalie Douglas is joined in her photos by husband Billy Joe Young, who is always the topic of a story or two in a Natalie Douglas show, so much so that he has come to be considered a member of the cast. He is also acknowledged as her greatest support system, helping in all aspects of her work.
