After a sold-out run at the Apollo Theater Salon Series, internationally acclaimed Burnt Sugar Arkestra, Tony nominee Brandon Victor Dixon (Color Purple, Lion King and Unchain My Heart) and Director Patricia McGregor (Fela!) present a one-night only tribute concert of Indomitable: James Brown The Music and The Man on Friday, December 17, 2010. Indomitable is inspired by the life and music of the legendary James Brown and will be performed at Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleeker Street at 8pm. Director Patricia McGregor, Associate Director of Broadway's Tony nominated Fela! and co-founder of collaborative performance collective Angela's Pulse, combines elements of dance and multi-media to capture the personality, spirit and musical brilliance of the indomitable James Brown. Critically acclaimed author and Burnt Sugar Akrestra Founder, Greg Tate, conducts the 18-piece orchestra interprets Brown's music through their virtuosic skill at recreating musical styles of many genres. The song list includes classics such as: "I Feel Good," "Say it Loud," "Man's World," "Please Please," "Hot Pants," "I Don't Want Nobody to Give Me Nothing," and "Superbad".

"December marks the anniversary month of James Brown's passing and our goal was to create a performance that would celebrate his extraordinary career, life and legendary music," said Director, Patricia McGregor. "His complex, exhilarating and socially conscious work formed an entire musical idiom that is the foundation of pop music worldwide. The fusion of Brandon Victor
Dixon's ferocious vocals and Burnt Sugar's dynamic improvisation, results in a theatrical interpretation of the performance of an American icon."

Featuring performances by: Imani Uzuri, Shelley Nicole, Lisala, Luqman Brown, LaFrae Sci, V. Jeffrey Smith, Latasha N. Nevada Diggs, Karma Mayet Johnson, "Moist" Paula Henderson, Jared Michael Nickerson, Mikel Banks, Lewis "Flip" Barnes, Micah Gaugh, Curtis Stewart, Will Martina, Avram Fefer, Andre Lassalle, Bruce Mack, Christopher Randolph, Tiffany Rachelle Stewart and Eddie Brown.

Le Poisson Rouge, the venue formerly known as The Village Gate, has hosted icons including Duke Ellington, MiLes Davis, John Coltrane, Felonious Monk, Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin.
