The Martina Arroyo Foundation's Prelude to Performance program will stage two operas from July 6-9 at The Kaye Theatre at Hunter College. This year, young singer's will be featured in Bizet's CARMEN and a double bill of Puccini's Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi.

Founded over a decade ago by opera legend soprano Martina Arroyo, Prelude to Performance gives selected young singers an opportunity to prepare the complete interpretation of operatic roles in furtherance of the objectives of the Foundation. During their time in the program, which culminates in live performances with full orchestra, participants are schooled by some of opera's best and brightest including stagecraft led by Stephen 'Mo' Hanan (CATS Broadway Original Cast) a role study class led by Ms. Arroyo herself. Additionally they participate in master classes with renowned singers like Jane Eaglen, Isola Jones and Sharon Sweet and industry pros like Ken Benson and Fred Plotkin.

The Foundation sees opera as the melting pot of many art forms so it is not surprising that years of study and ongoing dedication are needed to become a mature artist. MAF and Prelude to Performance is proud to be helping young singers by giving them the tools necessary to achieve their goals. Our intensive program of study, coaching and performance helps our singers gain the confidence to maximize their creative and artistic potential in the very competitive profession they have chosen to pursue. We hope you will join us for our upcoming performance.
