Salvatore Cordella will make his Met debut as Leicester in this evening's performance of Donizetti's Maria Stuarda, replacing Matthew Polenzani, who is ill.

The Italian tenor's performances in his native country have included Riccardo in Donizetti's Maria di Rohan at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo; Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata in Jesi, Fermi, Brindisi, and Treviso; the First Tempter and First Knight in Pizzetti's Assassinio nella Cattedrale at La Scala; and the Duke of Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto in Lecce.

Maria Stuarda, conducted by Maurizio Benini and directed by David McVicar, also stars Joyce DiDonato in the title role, Elza van den Heever as Elisabetta, Joshua Hopkins as Cecil, and Matthew Rose as Talbot.
