Roberto De Biasio will make his Met debut as Gabriele Adorno in the Thursday, January 20 opening performance of Simon Boccanegra, replacing Ramón Vargas, who is ill. Mr. Vargas is scheduled to sing the remainder of the performances.

Mr. De Biasio, a Sicilian tenor, most recently sang the role of Adorno in a 2010 production of Simon Boccanegra at Opéra de Montreal. He has also sung the role in Geneva and Zurich.

Simon Boccanegra, conducted by James Levine, also stars Dmitri Hvorostovsky in the title role, Barbara Frittoli as Amelia, and Ferruccio Furlanetto as Jacopo Fiesco.
