Met Opera Announces Don Giovanni Cast Change Advisory

Peter Mattei will sing the title role in Mozart's Don Giovanni on October 17 and 22 evening, in addition to the new production premiere tomorrow night, October 13. As previously announced he is replacing Mariusz Kwiecien, who has injured his back. The role of Don Giovanni is TBA for October 25 and 29 matinee.

Rodion Pogossov will sing the role of Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia on October 22 matinee, replacing Mattei. Pogossov also replaces Mattei as Figaro on October 14, as announced earlier this week.

Mattei will open La Scala's season in a new production of Don Giovanni on December 7. The Swedish baritone has previously performed Don Giovanni at the Met in three seasons 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2008-09.

Pogossov was already scheduled to sing Figaro in the October 26, 29, February 4, 8, 11, 15, and 18 performances. He is a graduate of the Met's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and last sang the role of Figaro in this production during the Met's 2009-10 season.

The new production of Don Giovanni, conducted by Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi and directed by Michael Grandage, also stars Marina Rebeka in her Met debut as Donna Anna, Barbara Frittoli as Donna Elvira, Mojca Erdmann in her Met debut as Zerlina, Ramón Vargas as Don Ottavio, Luca Pisaroni as Leporello, Joshua Bloom as Masetto, and Štefan Kocán as the Commendatore.
