Final Dress Rehearsal of Met's Armida Open To The Public 4/9

By: Mar. 18, 2010

The Metropolitan Opera will open the final dress rehearsal of its new production of Armida, starring soprano Renée Fleming, to the public on April 9. The new production is by Mary Zimmerman and conducted by Riccardo Frizza.

The dress rehearsal begins at 11:00 am. This is the third and final open dress rehearsal of the season. This program is supported by Agnes Varis, a managing director of the Met's Board of Directors, and her husband, Karl Leichtman, for the fourth consecutive year; they also underwrite the Met's popular Rush Ticket program.

Two thousand free tickets will be available to the public (2 tickets per person) through an online ticket drawing; entries will only be available at the Met's website, at www.metopera.org. The entry dates are from Wednesday, March 24, through the evening of Tuesday, March 30. Winners will be chosen on Wednesday, March 31, and names will be posted on the Met's website (www.metopera.org) that afternoon.

An additional 1000 free tickets will be distributed to students in the New York City area who participate in the Met's HD Live in Schools program, as well as select universities affiliated with the Met.

Renée Fleming stars in this new production of Armida, as the vengeful sorceress who reigns over an enchanted island prison. This marks the first time the opera is being shown at the Met. Armida opens on Monday, April 12 and runs through May 15, and will be transmitted live to hundreds of theaters around the world as part of The Met: Live in HD series, on Saturday, May 1.
The Armida open rehearsal is among a number of free public events offered by the Met this season, which included the first open final dress rehearsal of Tosca last September, and its opening night gala performance transmission onto multiple screens in Times Square and Lincoln Center's Josie Robertson Plaza; and the open final dress rehearsal of the new production of Les Contes d'Hoffmann in November.
