ANDY GRAMMER to Release New Album BIG STUPID HEART
The singer-songwriter's forthcoming project marks his latest full-length studio effort.
Andy Grammer has announced a new studio album titled BIG STUPID HEART, scheduled for release on July 16th.
The 13-track collection is a poppy, joyful and deeply sincere defense of optimism, exploring what it means to remain open-hearted in a world that can make closing yourself off feel like the easier choice. Multi-platinum, Emmy Award-winning artist, podcaster and critically acclaimed songwriter Andy Grammer will release Big Stupid Heart on October 16th via S-Curve Records/Hollywood Records.
From busking on the boardwalk in Santa Monica to belting songs in stadiums, Grammer has always kept his head up. On Big Stupid Heart, however, the optimism that has long defined his music carries a new emotional weight. Studded with cello, choral vocals and soaring pop hooks, the album finds Grammer choosing sweetness, sincerity and love not out of naïveté, but as an act of resilience.
On the news of the upcoming new album Grammer noted: 'I wanted to make a record that feels like permission to care deeply again. Big Stupid Heart celebrates the kind of people who refuse to let heartbreak make them cynical. Honestly this is a daily battle for me, it's my anti cynicism battle cry.'
Following Grammer's 2024 album Monster, which made space for anger, grief and emotional honesty in a bold new way, Big Stupid Heart represents an evolution rather than a return to form. Grammer began work on the record with the intention of answering the turmoil and division he sees unfolding around the world with something sweet, pure and fierce. It is not an exercise in toxic positivity, but a call to keep our hearts open through the full spectrum of human experience, including moments of hardship, sadness and loss.
'There's a tension and a divide that is just hard to be in the middle of at this moment in history,' Grammer says. 'I'm feeling all the feelings more than I ever have in my life.'
That mission is captured by the album's title track, 'Big Stupid Heart,' a bittersweet war cry about refusing to let life harden you.
'There's kind of a desperation at this moment to stay true to your heart,' Grammer says of the song. 'This is a war cry to myself to stay open.'
The album also features the deeply moving 'Best Hearts,' which Grammer wrote as part of his podcast, Showing Up With Andy Grammer. The weekly series invites listeners to share stories of people who have shown up for them, with Grammer creating an original song in response as his own act of showing up.
'Best Hearts' was inspired by a mother who left a voicemail describing the strength and kindness her son displayed while battling his own mental health struggles. While receiving treatment, he found the strength to comfort another individual who was also struggling. 'Can you write a song about people who are getting crushed but still show up for others in that moment?' she asked Grammer.
That question became the emotional heartbeat of 'Best Hearts,' a stirring tribute to the people who have been shattered by life and somehow still choose strength, resilience and openness. At its core is the lyric and thesis 'the best hearts are broken,' a reminder that experience does not have to close us off from the world. Sometimes, it can deepen our capacity to love.
The song honors those who have 'stood back up' and still choose to 'stay open,' finding beauty in the idea that the people who know what it means for the world to go dark are often the ones most able to recognize and offer light.
Across Big Stupid Heart, Grammer makes the case that optimism can be complex, hard-earned and radical. The result is an album filled with sweetness and sincerity, but also the grief, experience and determination required to keep choosing them.
In speaking with People Magazine he said: 'This album is a type of sound that I've wanted to capture for a really long time with anthemic cello pop, and I finally got it. The album is about how much cost there is to loving deeply, and the decision to still do it. Keeping an open heart is the boldest thing anyone can do.'
Grammer is currently bringing that message directly to audiences across the country on his Big Stupid Hearts summer headline tour, which continues through August. This fall, he will return to the intimate, story-driven format that has become a signature of his live career with Greater Than Pt. II: A One Man Show, beginning November 3 in Nashua, New Hampshire.
