The Steps Beyond Foundation, Steps on Broadway's non-profit arm which connects artists and community through dialogue, performance, and artistic collaboration, invites three celebrated female contemporary dance makers to discuss The Creative Process Unraveled, June 24, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. at the Steps Studio Theater on Manhattan's Upper West Side.

Moderated by the foundation's Chairman of the Board, Dr. Allen Maniker, the Steps Beyond Foundation will welcome Monica Bill Barnes, choreographer, performer, and the Artistic Director of Monica Bill Barnes & Company, Janis Brenner, award-winning dancer, choreographer, singer, teacher and Artistic Director of Janis Brenner & Dancers, and Pam Tanowitz, Bessie Award-winning choreographer and Artistic Director of Pam Tanowitz Dance. Led by Juilliard graduate and former professional dancer, Maniker will incorporate video excerpts of each panelist's work to highlight the elements of the creative process, the female voice and sensibility, and the journey a work takes from studio to stage.

""This particular Artists Talk provides a forum to delve into the creative process highlighting a woman's perspective on movement creation, motivation, inspiration and sensitivity. " explains Diane Grumet, Artistic Director of Steps Beyond Foundation. "We hope to explore not only process, but also the relationship of women choreographers to the community-at-large, for example, how work once created is produced."

Dedicated to expanding and bridging the dance community, the Artist Talk Series is a dynamic opportunity for artists and audiences to share ideas and information on a wide range of topics. The most recent Artist Talk took place on April 8, and featured Siobhan Burke, a New York Times and Dance Magazine contributor, former Editor in Chief of Dance Magazine, Wendy Perron, Financial Times arts critic Apollinaire Scherr, and author of What the Eye Hears: A History of Tap Dancing and New York Times contributor Brian Seibert to discuss Dance Criticism in Uncertain Times.

Artists Talk: The Creative Process Unraveled: Women Choreographers will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2017, in the Steps Studio Theater, on the 3rd floor. All tickets are $12, with a reception to follow. Tickets are on sale at https://stepsnyc.com/steps-beyond/special-events/artists-talks-series/artist-talk-tickets/

Steps on Broadway is located at 2121 Broadway at 74th Street and is accessible by the 1,2, and 3 trains.

Launched in 2015 and directed by Diane Grumet, The Steps Beyond Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing and sustaining dance artistry and cultivating supporters of the dance community. The Foundation offers collaborative opportunities among established and emerging artists through community engagement, dance scholarships, performances and special events.
