The peerless Zenon Dance Company opens its 28th season with world premieres by New York choreographer Colleen Thomas and the Uruguayan-born, Brooklyn based luciana achugar as well as repertory works from Andrea Miller and Argentine native Susana Tambutti.

Audiences and critics praisEd Thomas' 2007 work for Zenon, Catching Her Tears (44 ºN, 93ºW), for its rich, sensuous imagery.  The New York Times has lauded achugar's "sensual, raw and intensely physical" choreography.  Brought to life with the stylistic diversity and emotional intelligence of Zenon's dancers, these powerful new works highlight another signature concert.

"Our focus this season on women choreographers of the Americas celebrates the extraordinarily physical, kinetically explosive and arrestingly sensual works these four intelligent choreographers have created for Zenon," explains founder and artistic director Linda Z. Andrews. "The program of modern and post-modern dance works will be dark, powerful and forcefully feminine-in other words, an unforgettable experience for new and seasoned followers of Zenon."

Zenon Dance Company returns to the Southern Theater this winter for the annual family delight The Nutcracker According to Mother Goose choreographed by Seán Curran. City Pages calls the work, "a sweet holiday treat for the little ones with a smash-up of the Mother Goose tales and the Nutcracker ballet." The show runs from December 16-18.
