SENSEDANCE to Premiere at Kaye Playhouse in NYC, 11/1-4

Choreographer Henning Rübsam and his company SENSEDANCE present two programs at THE KAYE PLAYHOUSE at Hunter College, 68th Street & Lexington Avenue, NYC. A tribute to Rübsam's late mentor Beverly Blossom opens the run on Sunday, November 1, 2015 after which Rübsam shows new work with his company SENSEDANCE in the program AND THERE WAS MORNING. His ensemble will perform three world premieres to new music by contemporary composers, Monday - Wednesday, November 2 - 4, 2015. All curtain times are at 7:00pm.

The BEVERLY BLOSSOM MEMORIAL GALA on November 1 is a tribute with guest stars from around the country to the late "doyenne of robust eccentricity" on the very anniversary of her passing. A kaleidoscope of Blossom's best work is shown on this exciting program. Renowned solo artists Douglas Nielsen and Betsy Fisher will perform Losing You and Blossom's signature solo Dad's Ties respectively. A group of dancers from the University of Illinois will perform her group work Brides. Ella & Mark Magruder, former company members of Beverly Blossom, dance her earliest work "Black Traveler" as well as the gender-bending Besame Mucho and the poignant Last Bow. Henning Rübsam recreates "Shards," a poetic solo Blossom first performed in homage to her late mentor Alwin Nikolais. Former fellow Nikolais dancer Christine Reisner will join Rübsam in Fan Dance which they both danced when members of Blossom's company.

Three world premieres make up the SENSEDANCE program of AND THERE WAS MORNING, which is also the title of Rübsam's newest collaboration with composer Beata Moon. Both Juilliard graduates celebrate an artistic partnership that dates back to 1992 with this colorful and exuberant exploration of sound and movement. Composer Ricardo Llorca's Combat Del Somni will be performed live by famed pianist Rosa Torres-Pardo and violinist Bruno Axel. Rübsam explores different relationships on- and off-pointe and lets his dancers move freely in a movement style all his own that employs the exactitude of ballet and the freedom of modern dance. Grand Canyon to music by composer/songwriter Matt Siffert showcases Rübsam's company in a fancy flight of songs with feelings as deep as the Grand Canyon.

Dancers for the season include Erin Ginn, Temple Kemezis, Uthman Ebrahim, Jacqueline Stewart, Maurice Dawkins, John Durbin, Luz Guillen, Barrington Hinds, Kristen Stuart, and Henning Rübsam. Lighting designer is Philip Treviño.

The collaborative creation by Rübsam and Moon of AND THERE WAS MORNING, is one of the first projects to be documented by the Contemporary American Dance Museum. An installation exhibition by video artist Benton C Bainbridge can be found in the theater lobby.
