Maine State Ballet brings a little bit of Paris to Maine this summer with its high-kicking comedy, Can-Can Parisien. The most raucous and rowdy piece in Maine State Ballet's ever-growing repertoire, Can-Can Parisien is set in a fashionable Parisian cabaret, where guests are enjoying the lively nightlife. A wealthy tourist bursts upon the scene, intent on having a good time, and is quite taken with the ladies of Paris! He is particularly smitten with a lovely Glove Seller, who is also admired by a young Baron. A pretty Flower Girl, the Lady in Ruby Red (a reigning beauty), smartly uniformed officers and their chic ladies - all enter into flirtations and jealousies leading to a down-right brawl. Finally, peace is restored and all ill-will dispersed by the vivacious Can-Can!

Rounding out the evening is a new take on the classic, Raymonda. Excerpts from the ballet, choreographed by Artistic Director Linda MacArthur Miele, are set to Alexander Glazunov's superbly delightful score. Along with the exceptional dancing you've come to expect from Maine's premiere ballet company, this performance features new, exquisitely detailed costumes, each one designed and sewn right here in Maine by Associate Director Gail Csoboth. Not to be missed!

Can-Can Parisien and Raymonda run August 11 through August 20 at Maine State Ballet's Lopez Theater, 348 U.S. Route 1, in Falmouth.

Performance times are Thursdays & Fridays at 7:00pm, and Saturdays at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. Tickets are reserved seating, $17.00- $23.00. There is a $2.00 discount for Seniors 62 & over and for Children 12 & under.
