Festival Ballet Providence Announces Exciting 2018-2019 Season

By:

Festival Ballet Providence's (FBP) 2018-2019 Season will feature company premieres and new works, including a celebration of Mihailo Djuric's 20th Season as creative leader of the Company. "I'm thrilled with the growth and maturity of the company heading into the 20th year under my leadership," Djuric said, adding, "I can't wait to see what the future holds for us." The season consists of eight unique programs and totals 38 individual performances. The Company performs in three venues in Providence, RI: Providence Performing Arts Center, The Vets, and its own Black Box Theatre. Single tickets for the 41st Season go on sale Sept. 4, 2018; subscription tickets are currently available.

The season features world and company premieres including two brand-new chatterBOXtheatre productions: Robin Hood by FBP School alumna Mary Ellen Beaudreau and Three Little Pigs by former Company dancer Louisa Mejeur. A mixed program titled Mirrors will include two company premieres and the return of a beloved favorite, reflecting the past, present, and future of neoclassical and contemporary dance: George Balanchine's iconic Serenade, Yury Yanowsky's apocalyptic Smoke and Mirrors, and resident choreographer Viktor Plotnikov's gripping dance-drama Coma. Festival Ballet remains one of only two New England companies with the resources and ability to perform the works of George Balanchine.

Tchaikovsky's classical mainstays The Nutcracker and Swan Lake promise to sweep audiences away with dance and drama on a grand scale, while two Up Close on Hope programs offer a very different perspective in the intimacy of the Black Box Theatre. "We have always said our repertoire offers something for everyone, and this season is no exception," Djuric said. "Whether you're seeing dance for the first time or you're a long-time patron, I'm delighted with what we have to offer all of our audience."

FBP continues its tradition of bringing live performance to school audiences with three school-time performances of its Discover Dance series. This outreach endeavor has served over a hundred thousand children since it was first introduced in the 1980s by founder Christine Hennessey.

The Company roster will feature the addition or promotion of three company dancers, two apprentices, and five trainees. All told, the Company consists of twenty-nine full time dancers and two ballet masters.
