Blue Mountain Express is the debut evening-length choreographic venture for DC-base dancers Eleni Grove and Matina Phillips. It will be presented at the beautiful, new Anacostia Arts Center on November 9 and 10, 2013. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, and are available at bluemountainexpress.bpt.me. For complete show details, see the schedule of events listed below.

Blue Mountain Express is where contemporary dance and bluegrass music collide. Four people board a train. Where they are going - only they know. During their journey, their personal stories are revealed and become interwoven. They discover similarities with one another and celebrate the idiosyncrasies that make them individuals.

"Bluegrass music is so infectious, driving, and emotional. We really felt bluegrass would highlight what we were aiming to express through movement. The two artistic forms complement each other so well," says choreographer Eleni Grove.

ELENI GROVE is a performer, choreographer, and arts administrator. Receiving her training in classical ballet, Eleni attended several nationally recognized intensives, as well as performing internationally at the Tanzsommer Dance Festival (Austria) and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (Scotland). While attending Denison University, Eleni studied dance under the tutelage of Sandra Mathern-Smith and Gill Wright Miller. Regionally, Eleni has performed with Contradiction Dance, Mich-Mash Productions, and Taffety Punk Theatre Company (upcoming), as well as choreographed for Round House Theatre's Over The Line Festival and Folger Theatre's Twelfth Night. Outside of her dance adventures, Eleni works as an arts administrator at Imagination Stage.

MATINA PHILLIPS is a performer, choreographer, and dance teacher in the DC-area. She began dancing at an early age in a variety of styles including jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary, musical theater, and hip-hop. She continued her training at Elon University where she earned her BFA in Dance Performance & Choreography. As a professional, Matina has worked with various companies including ReVision Dance Company, alight dance theater, Contradiction Dance, Mich-Mash Productions, and MetroTAP. She has presented original choreography in Over The Line Festival, Young Choreographers Collective, Seussical Jr. with Imagination Stage, and Hairspray with The Alliance Theater. Matina also teaches dance to students of all ages in jazz, ballet, creative movement, tap, and hip-hop.
