The 3rd season of New York Theatre Barn's Choreography Lab has been made possible by a generous gift from the Amber Foundation. The first lab of the season will launch March 1, 2016 at The Cell, and will showcase 4 new works created by 5 choreographers.

The 2016 season will kick off with a special "24 Hour" theme. On the afternoon of February 29th, the choreographers will all be given a specific prompt. They will then have the next 24 hours to choreograph a piece informed by their prompt to be presented the next day at the Choreography Lab. The featured choreographers include Adolpho Blaire/Christopher Noffke, Louis Chavez, Geoffrey Goldberg, and Choreography Lab curator Avital Asuleen.

Now in its 3rd season, The Choreography Lab is a home for theatrical choreographers to explore work at all stages of development. The lab supports and offers emerging choreographers an arena to develop their storytelling abilities. The lab also aims to build collaborative relationships between choreographers and musical theater composers, librettists, directors, and producers in an effort to integrate choreography into early new work development.

Since its inception, the lab has served over 30 choreographers and 6 musical theatre writers. While many choreographers have their own developmental processes and resources, New York Theatre Barn is the only theatre company that supports a curated Choreography lab where choreographers can develop musical staging for a new piece. This platform is designed for choreographers to explore and create a movement language for a specific piece, in much the same way that writers can rewrite in a workshop or reading. Additional spring labs at The Cell include: May 5, 2016 / Open Lab: 4 Choreographers present a theatrically driven piece of their choice, and July 2, 2016 / New Works: 4 Choreographers partner with a Writer to create a physical story inspired by a new work.

The Cell is located at 338 West 23rd Street in New York City. The lab begins at 3:30pm, and runs approximately 90 minutes. $10 tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance through OvationTix: https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pe.c/10074432. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Under the direction of Artistic Director Joe Barros, New York Theatre Barn (Theatre Barn) is a Manhattan based non-profit theatre company founded in 2007 and dedicated to incubating and producing new musicals that tell untold stories. The company is positioned to develop, promote, and preserve stories and perspectives that are challenging, alternative, and are not traditionally told through the evolving art form of musical theatre.
