Alessandra Corona Presents Works by Italian Choreographers at Baruch Performing Arts Center

Alessandra Corona presents her A Corona Works in two world premieres by Italian choreographers: "Amore Impossibile" by Kristian Cellini of Rome, and "Just Joy" by Guido Tuveri of Sardinia, May 30 & 31 at the Baruch Performing Arts Center, 55 Lexington Avenue (entrance on 25th Street). Corona, a former 12-year principal dancer with Ballet Hispanico, will present her 7-member ensemble joined by a guest actor. The choreographers were invited by Corona to create their works earlier this year, and will return to New York for the May performances.

"Just Joy" was created by Guido Tuveri who, like Alessandra, is from Sardinia. A collaboration with the Corona dancers, "Just Joy" celebrates the stages of life and aims to show how, even in times of difficulties and sorrow, dance will always bring passion and joy. Songs from Sardinia, sung in their native language, accompany the dance along with original music by American composer Thomas Lentakis.

"Amore Impossibile" is a new dance-theater production created by Kirstian Cellini of Rome, who was inspired by "The Lady of the Camellias," revised in a contemporary version. Cellini's work highlights the sentimental and passionate aspects of the love between the main characters. A narrator will join the dancers for this work to music by Chopin, and original music by Thomas Lentakis.

Kristian Cellini graduated as a classical and modern dancer in his native Rome. He began his 20-year career working as principal dancer with Carla Fracci, George Iancu and others in such productions as "Romeo and Juliet" and "Five Events of Medea." Among his many credits are choreographing for Giuseppe Picone, currently director of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, for his tour with Andrea Bocelli, for BCB Bangkok City Ballet, and for the Festival DansEncore Canada. Cellini has also guest taught at the Boston Ballet, Arts Umbrella in Vancouver, and the Studio Harmonic and Centre du Marais in Paris.

Guido Tuveri, from Cagliari, Sardinia, has choreographed and directed 18 full evening performances for a variety of companies around the globe, including the Cia de Camara in Costa Rica, SKanes dans Theater in Malmo, Sweden, and the Balletto di Sardegna in Italy, for which he was artistic director from 2008 until 2012. His aim is to bring out the joy that is generated by movement.

Alessandra Corona, from Cagliari Italy, was trained at the National Ballet Academy in Rome, where she danced with several companies. Upon moving to New York, she became principal dancer with Ballet Hispanico, touring with the company for 12 years, originating many roles. At the invitation of Ann Reinking, she toured for 2 years in the international company of "Fosse," and appeared in the City Center Encore! production of Richard Rodgers' "No Strings," directed by Reinking. Alessandra has taught ballet, modern and jazz in the U.S. and Italy, and is also a certified Gyyrotonic and Gyrokinesis trainer in NYC. She founded A Corona Works in 2012 with a commitment to creating work by artists from around the world and is enjoying transitioning to her role of artistic director of her own repertory company.
