The York Symphony Orchestra will present The American Dream on Saturday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York. It is the fifth concert of the 2016-2017 Classical Series, A Musical Journey Through Time. The performance will feature Chris Brubeck's Travels in Time for Three, Peter Boyer's Ellis Island: The Dream of America, and James Beckel's "The American Dream" from Night Visions.

Time for Three, who joins the York Symphony Orchestra for Brubeck's Travels in Time for Three, is part of a new generation of classically-trained musicians who incorporate different musical styles and create innovative new pieces. The trio includes two violinists and a double-bassist who create an exciting evening as they showcase their unique musical style. Travels in Time for Three was written for the trio Time for Three and was commissioned by a consortium of eight orchestras including the Boston Pops.

"I'm honored to share the stage with the award-winning trio Time for Three. Their style blends a variety of musical genres for an intensely entertaining show," said Lawrence Golan, music director and conductor of the York Symphony Orchestra.

Boyer's Ellis Island: The Dream of America has become one of the most performed American orchestral works of the last decade. This piece showcases those who came in search of the American Dream through memoirs and letters from Ellis Island, brought to life by Jack Hartman and actors from The Belmont Theatre. Jack Hartman has been a trial attorney and actor in Central Pennsylvania for over forty years. He has had many leading roles in dramatic and comedic theatrical performances. He was also nominated as best supporting actor at the Washington D.C. Film Festival.

Beckel's "The American Dream" is the final movement of the composition, Night Visions, and its majestic opening truly speaks to the excitement and greatness of our hopes and aspirations. "The American Dream" is the first of Beckel's compositions to be published by Hal Leonard, the world's largest music print publisher.

"The American Dream showcases modern composers and a period in our history when so many were coming together in search of a shared dream," said Golan. "This performance represents a significant part of our country's history and brings to life the blending of many cultures."

The York Symphony Orchestra will present The American Dream Saturday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York. Single tickets starting at $9 for adults and $5 for students are available online at www.yorksymphony.org and by calling 717-846-1111.
