Due to the weather forecast for thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, and out of concern for the safety of the audience and the musicians, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, in consultation with the NYPD, the Van Cortlandt Park Conservancy, and the New York Philharmonic, has made the decision to cancel this evening's performance of the New York Philharmonic in Van Cortlandt Park, the Bronx. The concert will not be rescheduled.

The Philharmonic had planned to dedicate tonight's concert to Lorin Maazel, former Philharmonic Music Director who passed away on Sunday. In light of the cancellation, the Philharmonic will dedicate its opening concert of this summer's Bravo! Vail residency to Lorin Maazel, performing Barber's Adagio for Strings, conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, in honor of the late conductor, composer, violinist, and friend of the Philharmonic. An additional dedication will take place in New York City in fall 2014; details will be announced at a later date.
