The Stockton Symphony Announces Support from Amigos for the Artes-Symphony

The Stockton Symphony is thrilled to announce that it will receive organized and sustained support from the local Latino community in the newly formed Amigos for the Artes-Symphony. Founding members include Chair Arlene Galindo, Christine Schweininger, Linda Stockton, Sandi Castañón-Ramirez, Ana Maria Zapien, and Dr. Ines Ruiz-Huston.

Vision Magazine will host the first event for the new support organization, a reception on October 4, 2013, in the Locke Lounge at San Joaquin Delta College, at 6:00 p.m. The reception precedes the Symphony's Music Beyond Borders Concert, featuring electric violinist Tracy Silverman, at 7:30 p.m. in the Tillie Lewis Theatre. The concert is co-sponsored by San Joaquin Delta College.

Amigos for the Artes-Symphony is a group dedicated to building a new Latino and multi-cultural audience for the Stockton Symphony. Founded in the late summer of 2013, Amigos for the Artes plans to develop a membership of youth, professionals, and families within the San Joaquin Valley to attend the Symphony's performances and educational events, and to cultivate lifetime members, donors, and patrons of the symphony.

Members of the Amigos for the Artes-Symphony will work to enhance the aesthetic experience of the Symphony patron through inclusion, culture, and understanding, creating a holistic and exceptional visit for the concert-goer. Special concert packages for Amigos members will provide significant opportunities and savings to enjoy the best of International music, culture and the arts. Memberships will be introduced and forms will be available at the October 4th reception. Membership pricing levels are $35 Individual, $20 Student, and $50 Family. Additional levels available. In a show of support by the local Latino community, Luis Martinez y el Trio Romance will provide music for the reception, Viñedos Aurora Winery will provide wine, DeVega Brothers Restaurant will cater the affair, and J&S Flowers will provide floral décor.

Silverman will be giving a solo performance along with commentary about his innovative instrument and his playing style. A product of the '70s, Tracy Silverman wanted to rock out with the rest of the decade in a rock and roll band. Instead of picking up the guitar he chose the violin and, after graduating from Juilliard, built one of the first-ever 6-string violins-setting his own course as a musical pioneer, designing and performing on an instrument that did not previously exist.

The world's first concert electric violinist, Silverman has been the subject of two major orchestral commissions, both composed specifically for and with Tracy: Pulitzer winner John Adams? "The Dharma at Big Sur," premiered with the LA Philharmonic at the gala opening of Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2003 and recorded with the BBC Symphony on Nonesuch Records with John Adams conducting; and legendary "Father of Minimalism" Terry Riley?s "The Palmian Chord Ryddle" which Silverman premiered with the Nashville Symphony in Carnegie Hall on May 12, 2012.
