Members of the Canton Symphony Orchestra will be featured as soloists on the concert titled "Orchestra Spotlight", Sunday, November 2 at 7:30pm at Umstattd Performing Arts Hall (2323 17th Street NW, Canton). The program of classical standards includes Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Violins in a minor, Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 and Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Four Winds. The soloists will host a question and answer session, known as "Back Talk", with audience members immediately following the concert.

"There is so much talent in this orchestra", says Music Director Gerhardt Zimmermann who will conduct the concert, "It is a pleasure to highlight some of them on our home stage." The featured musicians include Concertmaster Justine Lamb-Budge on violin, Principal Second Violin Solomon Liang, First Violin Rachel Sandman, Principal Flute Katherine DeJongh, Prinicpal Oboe Terry Orcutt, Principal French Horn Meghan Guegold, Principal Bassoon Todd Jelen and Parker Ramsay on harpsichord.

Justine Lamb-Budge is in her second year as Concertmaster for the Canton Symphony Orchestra. Previously, she was Concertmaster of the National Philharmonic, the Mansfield Symphony, and Associate Concertmaster of the Akron Symphony Orchestra. She frequently performs with the Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras as well as the National Symphony Orchestra. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and has completed one year of her Master Degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she is studying in the prestigious Concertmaster Academy with William Preucil, Concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra.

Solomon Liang has performed as soloist with New Valley Symphony, Antelope Valley Symphony, Pasadena Orchestra, CityMusic Cleveland Chamber Orchestra and Cleveland Institute of Music Chamber Orchestra. He earned degrees in violin performance from Yale School of Music, Cole Conservatory and the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Rachel Sandman holds a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from Rice University where she led the University Symphony and Chamber Orchestras as concertmaster and principal second violin. She has taught at Schindewolf Middle School and Space Center Intermediate School in Houston and currently teaches privately at the Aurora School of Music in Aurora, Ohio while pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Katherine DeJongh holds the position of Principal Flute with the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus. She is on the faculties of the Cleveland Institute of Music and Case Western Reserve University. Ms. DeJongh holds a Master Degree in music from the Cleveland Institute of Music, a Bachelor Degree from the University of Illinois and a diploma from the Interlochen Arts Academy.

Terry Orcutt has held the position of Principal Oboe of the Canton Symphony Orchestra since 2000 and is also Principal Oboe of the Akron Symphony. As an active freelance performer, Mr. Orcutt has played with other local orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra, Cleveland Opera, Wheeling Symphony and the Erie Philharmonic. Mr. Orcutt earned a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree from Mannes College of Music in New York City.

Meghan Guegold is Principal Horn of the Canton Symphony Orchestra and Akron Symphony Orchestra as well as a member of the Blossom Festival Band and Blossom Festival Orchestra. She has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Florida Orchestra, New World Symphony and Wheeling Symphony. Ms. Guegold is an Instructor of Horn at the Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory and Continuing Education Department as well as at Case Western Reserve University. She received her Master Degree in Horn Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music and earned her Bachelor Degree from the University of Akron.

Todd Jelen is the principal bassoonist with the Canton Symphony Orchestra, Akron Symphony Orchestra and Wheeling (West Virginia) Symphony. He has performed with The Cleveland Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony, Utah Symphony, Sarasota Opera Orchestra, Blossom Festival Orchestra and the Cleveland Opera and Ballet Orchetras. Mr. Jelen received his Bachelor Degree in Music Performance from Cleveland State University and his Master Degree in Music Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Parker Ramsay regularly performs in the United States and Europe as an organist, harpsichordist and harpist. He has performed in venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Washington National Cathedral, Princeton University Chapel and the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. Mr. Ramsay is currently pursuing a Master Degree in historical keyboards at the Oberlin Conservatory.

Tickets for the concert range from $25-$45. There are senior, student and group discounts available. Dress is casual and the concert is appropriate for ages 8 and older.
