On Oscar Sunday, February 22, Q2 Music, WQXR's contemporary classical online music stream, will pay tribute to one of film's most iconic and prolific composer of movie scores with a 24-hour stream of Ennio Morricone.

Hosted and curated by WQXR's Movies on the Radio host David Garland, the program is presented as part of Q2 Music's "24 on the 24th" series, themed day-long marathons on the 24th of every month. The marathon will feature selections from Morricone's better known scores, including The Island, The Mission, The Untouchables, Once Upon a Time in the West and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - alongside music from more obscure films (the 1971 thriller A Lizard in a Woman's Skin and 1974's Il Trio Infernale), free-jazz improvisations and tributes by the likes of John Zorn and Thievery Corporation.

The stream runs from 12:01AM to 11:59PM ET on Sunday, February 24, and will enjoy an encore on Tuesday, February 24 starting at 12:01AM at www.q2music.org.

Few composers, let alone film composers, have achieved the widespread artistic admiration and commercial success of Morricone. At 86, he's scored over 500 movies and television series, written songs for Pet Shop Boys and Sting and developed a "non-commercial" oeuvre that spans free jazz, funk and electronic music. His music has been covered and/or sampled by John Zorn, Metallica, Coolio, LL Cool J and RZA of the Wu-Tang Cla, and his scores have been re-purposed by Wes Anderson and Quentin Tarantino as well as on The Simpsons and The Sopranos. In 2007, Ennio Morricone was awarded the Academy Honorary Award "for his magnificent and multifaceted contributions to the art of film music."
