New England Philharmonic's 21st Annual Young Artist Competition Now Accepting Applications

The New England Philharmonic (NEP) is now accepting applications for the 21st Annual Young Artist Competition. The winner will perform with the NEP at their annual family concert "Musical Characters," on December 13th at the Tsai Performance Center. The concert will include John Harbison's "Remembering Gatsby," George Antheil's "Tom Sawyer," and Rob Kapilow's "Elijah's Angel" featuring soloists Sarah Pelletier, soprano, David Kravitz, baritone, and Dana Whiteside, baritone as well as the Boston City Singers, Jane Money, Director.

"It is astonishing the quality of the performances that have been a part of these competitions throughout the years," recalls NEP's Music Director Richard Pittman, who has adjudicated 15 of the last 20 Young Artist Competitions. "It's been thrilling to present this opportunity each year and discover these brilliant young musicians who live in our own backyard."

Each candidate must meet all of the following requirements:

§ Candidate shall not have reached their 18th birthday by the scheduled performance date.

§ Candidate must not have graduated from high school prior to the scheduled performance date.

§ Candidate must be a resident of New England.

§ Candidate must not have been a previous first place winner of the Young Artist Competition.

§ Candidate must be available for at least two rehearsals, dates to be determined.

§ The Young Artist Competition is open to all orchestral instruments including piano, harp, saxophone, percussion.
