The Louisville Master Chorale has announced a holiday program featuring all three parts of Handel's magnificent oratorio, MESSIAH. It will include the favorite choruses and solos from Parts I and II (The Christmas and Easter sections) as well as the apocalyptic Part III in its entirety. Though it is not possible to encompass the entire work in a two-hour program, Mark Walker, conductor and artistic director, has taken a discerning and satisfying approach.

Sixty highly accomplished voices and 15 professional instrumentalists will enliven the remarkable acoustics of the Cathedral of the Assumpton.

Conductor: Mark Walker
Soprano: Selena Walker
Mezzo-soprano: Mary Beth McCandless
Tenor: Paul Whitehead
Bass: Patrick Yeager

This year's Messiah offers something a little different, a little "off the beaten path." In addition to hearing many of the all-time favorite choruses and solos from Parts I and II (respectively, the "Advent-Christmas" and "Passion-Easter" sections), the chorale will include the less-often-heard-yet-equally-beautiful Apocalyptic Part III in its glorious entirety. With favorites such as:

And the Glory of the Lord
O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion
For Unto Us a Child is Born
Behold the Lamb of God
All We Like Sheep
Surely He Has Borne our Grief
Lift Up Your Heads

You will also be treated to additional movements not as frequently heard in recent years:

He was Despised
I Know That My Redeemer Liveth
Since by Man Came Death
The Trumpet Shall Sound
Worthy is the Lamb
...and several more!

Handel's MESSIAH will be performed by the Louisville Master Chorale at the Cathedral of the Assumption (433 S. 5th St., L'ville) tonight, December 16, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. (pre-concert lecture by David Paul Gibson at 1:45 p.m.). $25 per ticket. Purchase at the door or visit www.LouisvilleMasterChorale.org.
