WHAT: Renowned celebrity violinist Itzhak Perlman graces the Walt Disney Concert Hall stage with his talented recital partner, pianist Rohan De Silva, Wednesday, January 21, at 8 pm. The performance is part of the LA Phil's 2014/15Colburn Celebrity Recitals series and one of many joint appearances by Perlman and De Silva this season.

The program begins with the duo performing Beethoven's Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 8 in G major, Op. 30, No. 3, one of the three sonatas of Op. 30 dedicated to Tsar Alexander I, whom the composer admired. Next is Grieg's Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 3 in C minor, Op. 45, the most popular of the composer's three violin sonatas. Following intermission, Perlman and De Silva perform Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Piano in G major, a work inspired by the composer's love of jazz and blues. Additional works are to be announced from the stage.

The Colburn Celebrity Recitals series for the 2014/15 season present virtuoso performances by world-renowned artists. Remaining recitals for the season are: pianist Sir András Schiff (February 18 and March 4); pianist Murray Perahia (March 15); pianist Lang Lang (March 22); and pianist Hélène Grimaud (April 14).

His conducting appearances include the Israel Philharmonic with Daniil Trifonov as soloist, Houston Symphony, and Seattle Symphony. Perlman continues to celebrate the rich tradition of Jewish and klezmer music this season with a 20th-anniversary return of his highly popular In the Fiddler's House program in a much-anticipated appearance at Carnegie Hall in March 2015.
