Bach Festival Society Welcomes Emanuel Ax, Playing Beethoven and Brahms, Tonight

The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park has announced the program for tonight's October 23, 2013, Emanuel Ax concert. Ax's fifth appearance with the Bach Festival Society features the following pieces:

- Piano Sonata Op. 2, No. 2 in A Major by Ludwig van Beethoven

- Piano Sonata Op. 13 in C Minor ("Pathétique") by Ludwig van Beethoven Klavierstücke, Op. 119 by Johannes Brahms

- Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Händel, Op. 24 by Johannes Brahms

"Emanuel Ax is one of America's most prolific virtuosi," says John Sinclair, Artistic Director of the Bach Festival Society. "It has been nearly a decade since his last appearance on the Bach Festival Visiting Artists Series, and we are honored to welcome him back. To hear Mr. Ax in this intimate setting is a rare and delightful experience."

One of the best known classical musicians of our time and winner of multiple Grammy awards for both solo and chamber performances, Emanuel Ax teaches on the faculty of the Juilliard School of Music. He resides in New York City with his wife, pianist Yoko Nozaki. Ax is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, is a recipient of Yale University's Sanford Medal, and holds an honorary doctorate of music from Yale, awarded in May 2007.
