Lulu.com and Athenian Press Partner To Empower Marginalized Voices Lulu.com, the pioneer in independent publishing, today announced its partnership with Athenian Press and Workshops, a non-profit based in Wilmington, NC.

Athenian Press launched a Kickstarter campaign in October 2017 with the hopes of raising $30,000 for their project. The campaign met its goal in just over 30 days, with Lulu donating the last $8,927 needed. The success of Athenian's campaign ensures the creation of a communal space that encourages, cultivates and supports the professional and personal development of marginalized voices in the community.

"We feel honored that Athenian Press reached out to us to help them bring this dream to fruition," said Kathy Hensgen, COO of Lulu.com. "The potential of this partnership to promote inclusivity and social awareness for those who have been overlooked or forgotten is tremendous."

Athenian Press and Workshops is slated to open in Wilmington, NC in April 2018 and will provide a space for seminars, professional development resources, retreats, conferences and festivals in addition to supporting community and educational outreach. Beginning in 2019, Athenian Press will publish books and anthologies that celebrate womanhood and femmehood in all of its forms.

Lulu.com will provide the publishing and printing backend of Athenian's future projects in support of their effort to transform the world of publishing by disrupting oppressive constructs of femininity, sexuality, and race.

"Since 2002, Lulu has been supporting indie authors and empowering writers around the globe to share their stories. There's a synergy between Lulu and Athenian, and it feels good to be able to affect lives right here in our backyard," said Matt Briel, Director of Marketing for Lulu.com.
