Lovemestiza to Release Independent Book During National Poetry Month

Poet and Afrofuturist Sheree "lovemestiza" Brown celebrates National Poetry Month with launch of independent book at the McNichols Civic Center Building. She is actively booking readings and book talks. Her book "lovemestiza" will hit the Internet and Denver bookstores early May for Mother's Day.

Sheree "lovemestiza" Brown launched her first self-published, independent book on March 31st, 2018, reading to a crowd of 200 at the McNichols Building in Denver, CO. She co-produced the event, dubbed "Invitation to Ritual."

Sheree's book title lovemestiza is an ode to her mixed ancestry. A self-described "Woman of many colors," she reflects on her journey as a Black woman and Chicana with mixed "Mestiza" and Indigenous roots. Her four-part book also traces her experiences becoming a mother, and healing from intergenerational, personal, and social traumas. In addition to poetry and prose, lovemestiza contains polaroids, quotes, and original plant-based medicinal recipes crafted by la "lovemestiza" herself.

Sheree has featured at Lighthouse Writer's Annual Literary Festival, Cafe Cultura, Queenz of Hip-Hop, The Renaissance Poetry Night at the Kasbah, and has taught and led workshops at dozens of school and community events through Lighthouse Writers and other arts and literary organizations. As a vocal artist, Sheree has been featured on audio projects by the likes of DJ Icewater and Shing02 (L.A.), Diles (Albuquerque) and Molina Speaks (Denver). She is slated to contribute to the Denver Art Museum's Final Fridays "Untitled" Series on April 27th, 2018.

Sheree is actively booking poetry readings, book talks, and workshops. Her book will be available online and in local Denver bookstores early in May for Mother's Day.
