VOICES Boston Children’s Choir in a production of Brundibár written by Jewish Czech composer Hans Krása with a libretto by Adolf Hoffmeister. This children’s opera was first performed at an orphanage in Prague in 1942, though most of the early performances happened inside Terezin Concentration Camp during 1943-1944. The Nazi’s famously featured a performance of Brundibár during the International Red Cross inspection in September of 1944 after realizing the propaganda potential of this work. Two weeks after this final performance, deportations to Auschwitz escalated and ultimately most of the adults and children involved in Brundibár were killed.
