Iolana Makaio is a theatre librettist/director and graduate of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. She began her professional career in New York as a press intern for several Broadway press agents, including The Fred Nathan Company, where she gained valuable experience in theatrical publicity and the Broadway industry. In addition she worked for the Broadway Advertising Agency, Ash LeDonne Fisher.
A passionate lover of theatre, Iolana has written and directed more than twenty plays and musicals which have played in New York and Oahu. Originally from Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, she grew up surrounded by the islands’ vibrant culture and artistic community.
Today, Iolana divides her time between Kona, Oʻahu, and Los Angeles, continuing to pursue her love of theatre and contribute to the performing arts whenever and wherever she can.
