Opera Australia’s Oz Opera presents
MOZART’S DON GIOVANNI
LOVE. BETRAYAL. PASSION. REVENGE.
He’s stolen kisses and broken hearts, but has opera’s great Casanova gone a step too far? Find out when Mozart’s memorable melodies reveal the most profound truths in an exciting new production of this classic masterpiece.
The Don spends his days in the company of gorgeous women, fine food and the best champagne, and he’s ready to add more women to his catalogue of conquests with the assistance of his much-maligned servant Leporello. But this time his dalliances are not going entirely to plan.
While escaping the house of one of his conquests, the virtuous Donna Anna, Don Giovanni is caught by her father the Commendatore and is forced to fight his way out. Donna Anna is devastated ? her beloved father is dead and her masked attacker is still at large.
Donna Elvira once succumbed to the Don’s amorous arts but he didn’t stay around for as long as she would have liked. She is telling everyone and anyone who will listen (including Donna Anna and her fiancé Don Ottavio) that he is not to be trusted.
Anna and Ottavio swear to avenge the Commendatore, but meanwhile Don Giovanni has set his sights on Zerlina, the lovely bride-to-be of local villager Masetto ? and she doesn’t look completely unwilling! It’s time for a party, and some champagne to seal the deal.
But when you are leaving a trail of broken hearts and havoc all over Europe, it is going to catch up with you sooner or later. Something or someone sinister is waiting just around the corner for Giovanni. Has opera’s favourite bad boy finally met his match?
Be swept up in the stylishly sexy decadence straight out of La Dolce Vita in Oz Opera’s new production of Mozart’s classic opera. Our smouldering Don is about to seduce audiences all around Australia ? watch out ladies!
Sung in English, performed with chamber orchestra
