David Greig's MIDSUMMER Comes to Brisbane, April 10-28
After sell-out seasons in the UK and the USA, Scotland's smash hit musical rom-com, MIDSUMMER (A PLAY WITH SONGS), arrives at La Boite next Tuesday following a run at the Sydney Opera House.
Direct from Edinburgh's acclaimed Traverse Theatre Company, Midsummer (a play with songs) is the lovechild of one of the UK's leading playwrights, David Greig and top Scottish singer/songwriter Gordon McIntyre of folk-pop outfit ballboy.
Originally premiering at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, this charming lo-fi musical romantic comedy has gained cult status, playing to sold-out crowds from London to Washington to Vancouver.
Midsummer (a play with songs) introduces us to Bob and Helena (played here by original cast members Matthew Pidgeon and Cora Bissett), two thirty-somethings whose one-night stand spills into a fabulous two-day bender of stolen money, car chases, wedding bust-ups, Japanese rope bondage, midnight trysts and self-loathing hangovers.
