MORE ON THE WORKSHOP AND ITS HOST

Filmmakers today must take control of every aspect of their film and its life in the world. This means no longer focusing on the film's production alone, but also the fundraising and distribution; and if that's not enough, they must also think about audience engagement from day one. What are the best strategies for building an audience both online and off? What are the new funding models and opportunities? What are the possibilities for DIY or self-distribution? What if you don't want to become a distributor for your film? What are some of the myths around distribution? What's all this talk about "transmedia" and participatory audiences? How do you balance all of this and still create a quality film? As a former producer of the Atlanta Film Festival, Brian returns to Atlanta for a one day intensive to address the above questions, helping you to think about a range of plans for your film. During the workshop he'll work on fundraising and distribution plans for select film ideas from the audience - as a group, because the audience is also the expert. He'll also focus on content quality and what various funders look for in today's indie filmmaking world. This is not just a self-distribution workshop - while it is the lucky few who (possibly) find a distributor for their film, knowing your audience and the best strategies to engage them is critical whether you distribute traditionally, DIY style or some hybrid of the two. After all, you aren't just building an audience for your film, you're building a fan base for your future.

He was executive director of IMAGE Film & Video Center, producer of the Atlanta Film Festival, and has held positions at the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) and the South Carolina Arts Commission.
