TheatreLAB Announces Permanent Residence in Downtown Arts District, Capital Campaign, and Non-Profit Status

By:

TheatreLAB is very proud to announce that after only two years since their inception as a mobile theatre company, they will move into "The Basement," their own dedicated theatre space later this year! A crowd-funded capital campaign will be launched at the beginning of April to finance the renovation of the space, the construction of which will take place throughout this summer.

"The Basement," TheatreLAB's new and permanent home is a basement space located at 300 East Broad Street, in the prestigious Arts District of Downtown Richmond. They will kick off their 2014-15 season in the newly renovated venue in October with John Cameron Mitchell's cult classic rock musical HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. The rest of the upcoming season will be announced throughout the capital campaign.

As a continued mission of TheatreLAB, the creation of this new endeavor is being spearheaded by emerging talents: plans for the space are being developed through Storefront for Community Design's partnership with VCU, the mOb [Middle of Broad] program. A talented student team of interior designers, graphic designers, and illustrators, overseen by experienced mentors are currently developing all of the renderings and sketches for the space. Those interested may track the project by attending First Fridays at Storefront for Community Design's offices (205 East Broad Street), when the students post their progress.

Additionally, TheatreLAB is in the final stages of filing their 501c3 paperwork and donations will be eligible for full tax deductibility before the launch of their full capital campaign on April 1st.

From Artistic Director, Deejay Gray: "When we announced TheatreLAB in March of 2012, we had no idea that in March of 2014, we would be announcing an exciting new venue of our own, a capital campaign to fund the space, and the necessary non-profit status to accept gifts to support our dream. This has been an inspiring, thrilling, and joyous time for us and we can't wait to set the stage for TheatreLAB's future in our new home in the Arts District of our favorite city."

From Managing Director, Annie Colpitts: "Given the amount of activity that has begun to stir on this section of Broad Street, and the incredible amount of freedom working in a space like this gives us...we simply could not pass up this amazing opportunity to create a real home for ourselves. We are overjoyed to be a part of the continued revitalization of this area and cannot wait to officially open our doors later this year!"

All monetary and in-kind donation inquiries may be forwarded to TheatreLAB Managing Director, Annie Colpitts at colpitts.annie@gmail.com. Again, all donations will be fully tax-deductible.
