THE MERRY WIDOW Will Come to KL City Opera in July
Performances will run from July 3-5, 2026.
KL City Opera has announced a new production of Franz Lehár’s “The Merry Widow,” set to run from July 3-5, 2026, at The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre’s Pentas 1 venue in Malaysia. The operetta will be performed in English with English and Chinese surtitles and is set against the backdrop of 1920s Paris during the rise of the belle époque and Art Deco eras.
The production will star Malaysian vocalist and stage performer Janet Lee as the wealthy widow Hanna Glawari opposite Gui Foo Chen as Count Danilo Danilovitsch. The cast will also feature Qahar Aqilah as Baron Mirko Zeta, Sharlene Rani as Valencienne, Wu Ji Khoo as Camille, Brian Cheong as Njegus, Thompson Yunga as Raoul de St. Brioche and Wynn Ch’ng Way Sean as Vicomte Cascada.
Directed and presented by Kuala Lumpur City Opera, the production marks one of the company’s major offerings of the 2026 season. According to organizers, the show will run approximately two hours and 45 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission. Performances are scheduled for Friday, July 3 at 8 p.m., followed by matinees on Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5 at 4 p.m.
