Shoshana Bush Follows Aunt, Bonnie Franklin, Into a Musical Career, Debut at The Cornelia Street Cafe, 6/27

By:

Jazz Vocalist/storyteller Shoshana Bush will appear at The Cornelia Street Cafe, on Friday June 27th at 6pm, singing the adventurous mix of jazz and American Songbook standards and not so standards for which she's popular on both coasts. Shoshana will be accompanied by Isamu McGregor on piano and Brian Holtz on Bass. Call 212.989.9319. It is her first appearance at this legendary Greenwich Village venue. She has appeared previously at Birdland and Blue Note, where she opened for Jane Monheit as a participant in the Emerging Artist Series in 2013.

Shoshana is a graduate of Columbia University in Jazz Studies who comes from an eclectic musical and showbiz family. Her aunt was the late Bonnie Franklin, stage and TV actress best known for her roles in Applause on Broadway, and as Ann Romano in the Norman Lear vehicle, "One Day At A Time." Her mother, Franklin's sister, is Judith Franklin Bush, an actress and co-founder with Bonnie of CCAP, a foundation in Los Angeles which introduces new theater works to city schools. Shoshana's entire family, including aunt, mother, brothers, and dad influenced her personal musical education, with Broadway, contemporary hip-hop and pop, classic vocal jazz and Dave Brubeck all figuring into the mix. She cites important influences as Blossom Dearie, Ahmad Jamal and Nina Simone.

Her set will include some infrequently sung tunes including: I Just Found Out About Love (And I Like It), The Lorelei, Something Cool and No Regrets.

In 2013, Shoshana Bush released her debut CD, "Shoshana Bush and Friends Live at Catalina Jazz." She has been a regular guest for the past year of the legendary John Bohannon, on WRHU's Jazz Café in New York, performing live in studio.

"Shoshana Bush has produced an impressive first album that should provide a firm launching pad for future success." Joe Jang, Jersey Jazz

After several appearances at the Sunday night Jazz Party, Shoshana Bush made her solo debut at Birdland in 2013. She has a full roster of regular gigs in NYC at venues like Pravda, The Flatiron Room, Henry at the Hudson and the National among others.
