Marc Shaiman to Visit CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts
The Hairspray and Some Like It Hot composer will speak at Hartford's Theater of the Performing Arts.
Composer-lyricist Marc Shaiman will visit students at CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half-Day Program on Monday, June 8, 2026, to share his experience writing for television, theater and film.
The visit will include two student sessions. From 1:20 to 2:30 p.m., Shaiman will participate in a facilitated conversation with students from all departments (Music, Theater, Musical Theater, Design and Theater Production, Visual Arts, Dance), with Shaiman at the piano. From 2:45 to 3:45 p.m., he will meet with Musical Theater students for a smaller, more intimate session focused on their area of study.
Shaiman is a Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award winner and seven-time Academy Award nominee. His film credits include Misery, City Slickers, Sister Act, A Few Good Men, Mary Poppins Returns, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut and The American President. His Broadway work includes Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can and Some Like It Hot. He also recently won an Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for "Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?" from Only Murders in the Building.
