Marc Shaiman to Appear at BROADWAY MUSICALS: A JEWISH LEGACY Screening

Tony and Emmy Award winner, and seven time Oscar nominee, Marc Shaiman (Hairspray, Smash) will lead a post-screening talkback and Q&A following the screening of the 2013 Peabody Award winning documentary BROADWAY MUSICALS: A JEWISH LEGACY on Saturday, August 29th, at 6:00pm, at AMT Theater. Tickets are only $10 and can be purchased now.

Marc Shaiman is an acclaimed composer, lyricist, arranger, and performer whose work spans Broadway, film, and television. A seven-time Academy Award nominee, he is best known for his longtime collaboration with lyricist Scott Wittman. Their Broadway credits include Hairspray, which earned Shaiman Tony, Grammy, and Drama Desk Awards, as well as Catch Me If You Can, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Some Like It Hot. His extensive film work includes When Harry Met Sally…, Sister Act, Sleepless in Seattle, The American President, and Mary Poppins Returns. Shaiman has also served as musical director and arranger for numerous celebrated performers.

In addition to the Q&A, Shaiman will sell autographed copies of his acclaimed book, Never Mind the Happy. Shaiman will be joined by the movie's producer Al Tapper and historian Laurence Maslon.

The screening is presented in conjunction with the debut of Tapper's new musical, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS: THE MUSICALS OF Al Tapper, which will play a limited four week engagement at AMT Theater starting on September 9th and running through October 10th, 2026.

The musical will star Lara Allison (Waitress), Emily Taylor Kaufman (Legally Blonde), Dan Olson (Kinky Boots), and Nathan Pecchia (Fly By Night). Reese Henrick (Sunday in the Park with George) and Lawson Lewallen (Little Shop of Horrors) will serve as swings.

Part concert, part comedy, and part affectionate roast, the musical celebration runs the gamut from Stephen Sondheim to Joey Buttafuoco—with stops along the way for Doris Day, Vladimir Putin, teenage lust, middle-aged regret, and the occasional Dirty Martini.

With Al appearing on screen and a live company bringing his songs to life, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS proves that one man's memories can be funny, touching, outrageous, and just inappropriate enough to deserve their own musical.

Dubbed as “The Most Accomplished Man You Have Never Heard Of” Al Tapper has written eleven musicals, produced award-winning films (including Broadway: The Golden Age, By The Legends Who Were There and Broadway Musicals…A Jewish Legacy), composed hundreds of songs—and even invented that little tab on your coffee-cup lid. Yet, no one knew his name…. until now!

The musical will be directed by Brian Childers (Love Quirks) with musical direction by David Wolfson (Les Miserables). The design team includes lighting designers Christian Specht and Samantha Weiser, projection designer Mark Childers, Costume Designer Cathy Small, sound designer Steven Fine, and film director Pete Dorton. Lara Hayhurst is casting director and RWSPR will serve s public relations.

AFTER ALL THESE YEARS: THE MUSICALS OF Al Tapper begins performances on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the AMT THEATER, and will officially open on Thursday, September 10, 2026, for a strictly limited 4-week engagement.
