Dan Ruth Reprises Award Winning A LIFE BEHIND BARS At Laurie Beechman Theatre ImageDan Ruth continues his triumphant 2018 season with a final New York City encore performance of his award winning solo show, "A Life Behind Bars" at The Laurie Beechman Theatre on Oct. 13th at 2pm.

The tour-de-force black comedy is the critically lauded 2018 winner of the MAC Award for Spoken Word, 2018 Bistro Award winner for Best Solo Show and 2018 Producer's Encore award winner from the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Fermented in over two decades of booze, bars and gentrification, "A Life Behind Bars" is an unapologetic, darkly funny look at what can happen when you reach for the stars and grab for the bottle instead.

Dan Ruth shares his story of addiction and recovery through comedic monologues, interwoven with characters he's encountered while working and drinking in the bars and dives of pre-Rudy Giuliani Williamsburg, Brooklyn and Manhattan. The show is directed by Dan's longtime collaborator, multiple-MAC and Bistro Award Winner, Tanya Moberly.

The Laurie Beechman Theatre is downstairs in the rear of the West Bank Cafe, 407 West 42nd Street. There's a $20 Cover charge and $20 food or drink minimum per person. To purchase tickets for Oct. 13th at 2pm, please visit: https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/968687. Phone: (212) 695-6909. Note: The show has frank language and mature themes.

Dan Ruth made his Off-Broadway debut with "A Life Behind Bars" at The United Solo Festival in October 2016. The show won the 2016 Festival Award for "Best Autobiographical Show" and a designation as "Best Seller" at the festival. "A Life Behind Bars" was first developed with David Drake's Solo Show Shop at The Abrons Center in 2014.

Ruth performed A Life Behind Bars to a single sold-out audience on December 19th, 2015 at Dixon Place in their main stage theatre and later went on to mount sold-out performances at both The Gutter Bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and at Theatre Lab in Richmond, Virginia in April and May of 2016 before bringing the show to The United Solo. Sober for 12 years, Ruth had a lot of practice reaching for bottles, working as a bartender in New York City at Curtain Up! at Manhattan Plaza, Danny's Skylight Room on 46th Street, Metronome and the Brooklyn Ale House in Williamsburg, which he ran from 2009 until its closing in 2014.

As Ruth continues to book the "A Life Behind Bars" throughout the country and in festivals around the world, he's writing a new solo piece as well as directing other artists, including 2018 United Solo performer, Mary Goggin and singer-actress, Andrea Bell Wolff.
