An Anchorage-area institution and the largest theatre summer camp of its kind in Alaska, the annual Summer Conservatory is held for five weeks each summer at the PAC.
ATY seeks to preserve the mix of educational classes and rotating repertory of its Festival of Plays, Alaska's only festival of this nature, in which Week One finds three shows rotating the same day followed by Week Two with three more rotating plays daily. Examples of scholarships include those awarded to: Jesse Lee Home, Compeer, Boys and Girls Club, Alaska Gymnastics, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, among others.
New for 2010: the ATY Festival of Plays, for both the Regular and Advanced and Fairytale shows, will occur at UAA's Department of Theater Main Stage in the Arts Building. As with last year's conservatory, the classes will be held at Pacific Northern Academy.
Dates:
Advanced Conservatory (Broadway and Shakespeare conservatories): June 19 - July 11
Regular Conservatory and Fairytale Theater: June 21 - July 18
Technical Conservatory: June 19 - July 18
The Festival of Plays at UAA: July 8 - July 17
Returning directors include Victoria Frasier and Leslie Ward, who are charged with directing both the Advanced Broadway musical as well as the Regular Conservatory Broadway to Hollywood Musical Revue.
