New Mexico State University Department of Theater Arts presents a summer program for youth entering grades 1st through 9th as part of its Children's Theatre Workshop, led by Professor Ruth Cantrell.

Now in its 26th year, Children's Theatre Workshop (CTW) offers students the opportunity to explore, create, act, and develop skills in theatrical production, communication, collaboration and imagination. The culminating event of the workshop is a production of the classic tale, "The Snow Queen." In the play, young Gerda searches to bring back her brother Kai from the cold hearted Snow Queen. Along the way she meets a vast array of colorful characters including a prince, a gypsy, a crow, a reindeer, talking flowers and a snow monster. The production will be directed by Ruth Cantrell.

"CTW is one of the most important things we offer the community," says Department Head Tom Smith. "It offers a creative outlet to youth, while teaching life skills that extend well beyond the production."

This summer's Children's Theatre Workshop will run June 7 through 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Cost is $150. Registration forms are available at the Hershel Zohn Theatre Office or at the department's website at http://theatre.nmsu.edu/nmsu/CTW.pdf.
