Performer and Director Nicholas Cannon, has travelled a long way since his days as a kid growing up in the Adelaide Hills. Following his graduation from WAAPA he studied the prestigious Jacques Lecoq Technique in Paris and Barcelona. Most recently, with the support of Arts SA, Nicholas undertook a Professional Theatre Internship at Coburg Landestheater in Germany, where he worked as an Assistant Director and managed to fit in performing a number of Baritone roles for the German Opera Company while there also.

Nicholas Cannon has performed the roles of Figaro, Don Alfonso, Onegin and Dr Falke for Co-Opera and directed Suor Angelica, Eugene Onegin and Cosi fan tutte, and now returns to Adelaide to embark on his next exciting project, the launch of his own company - Mopoke Theatre Productions.

For its premiere season, Mopoke Theatre Productions with the support of Co-Opera, will present Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief at the Adelaide Fringe in February and March,

Co-Opera is Australia's longest serving touring opera company and has been supporting emerging opera singers, Directors, instrumentalists and arts workers for over 20 years. It is proud to support this new Adelaide theatre company and its talented emerging Director, Nicholas Cannon as he creates and Directs the joint production.
The Old Maid and the Thief is a "Desperate Housewives of the 1930s", a delightfully funny yet poignent one act opera. Menotti's wonderful melodies and cheeky humour skillfully explore themes of love, morality, companionship, freedom and social status.

Menotti's cleverly crafted piece is the perfect vehicle for the fledgling Mopoke Theatre Productions and with the support of Co-Opera and the exceptional cast of Adelaide singers, may well prove to be a 'little gem' of this years' Fringe.
