Take a closer look at the man behind the iconic movies - the master of suspense - Alfred Hitchcock at Adelaide Festival Centre's latest exhibition, Hitchcock: Master of Suspense.

The exhibition, at Festival Theatre QBE Galleries, features a curated and diverse range of memorabilia, including original film posters, costumes, photographs coupled with quirky trivia, and interactive activities.

It also celebrates the upcoming stage adaptation of North By Northwest, at Adelaide Festival Centre's Festival Theatre from December 29 - January 20, 2019. Combining the magic of film and theatre, this incredible production of Hitchcock's supreme comedy stars acclaimed actors Matt Day in the leading role of man on the run, Roger O. Thornhill and Adelaide's own Amber McMahon as femme fatale Eve Kendall.

Every twist, every thrill, every hairbreadth escape from Hitchcock's original genius work is retained for this stunning new stage adaptation from director Simon Phillips and adapted for the stage by Carolyn Burns.

The exhibition also showcases the stunning costumes and design sketches from the stage show based on the iconic 1959 Hollywood film featuring Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint.

Sir Alfred Hitchcock KBE (1899 - 1980) was one of the most influential and successful filmmakers in cinema history. Famous for his innovative cinematic techniques, signature storytelling style and meticulous creative control, he directed over 50 feature films in a career spanning six decades.

Hitchcock's films explore flawed human characters through the intrigue of murder, manhunts, kidnappings, blackmails and deceptions - often with humour, a love story and of course a platinum blonde. His films Notorious (1946), Rear Window (1954), Vertigo (1958), and The Birds (1963) were ground breaking thrillers. With the release of Psycho in 1960, Hitchcock created the modern horror film.

Hitchcock received the American Film Life Achievement Award in 1979 and was knighted in December that year, four months before he died in 1980.
