In 1971 and 1972 the greatest and most tragic of the 20th century's operatic divas, Maria Callas - La Divina, gave a series of celebrated masterclasses for singing students at the Julliard School of Music in New York.

It was on these masterclasses that playwright Terrence McNally based his 1996 Tony Award winning play Master Class. In the play Maria Callas reveals her very soul to her singing students, inspiring them with her passion and commitment.

In a unique presentation the Elder Hall Masterclass series brings to the Elder Hall stage this masterpiece directed by Independent Theatre's acclaimed director Rob Croser, with a cast of experienced actors and singers led by Kathryn Fisher, who will read the part of Callas.

Past and present Elder Conservatorium voice students, who have successful careers in the theatre, including Jessica Dean, Michaela Burger and James Nicholson complete the cast of Master Class accompanied by Mark Sandon. Music is by the world's great operatic composers Verdi, Puccini and Bellini.

Master Class by Terrence McNally, one performance only Elder Hall 2.30pm Sunday 16 June 2013.
