2016 Season of Popular Concerts at Kent Town opens 2pm Wednesday 20 July 2016. It will feature Mezzo-Soprano Charlie Kelso and Peter Kelsall - Organist at Wesley Church, Cnr. Fullarton Road and Grenfell Street, Kent Town. Tickets at Door $10 includes Afternoon Tea.

One of the bright and beautiful things about winter, and something that many music lovers eagerly anticipate, is the Concerts @ Kent Town series in the magnificent 19th century Wesley Church Kent Town.

There is always a warm welcome for music lovers at the concerts at Kent Town. Tickets are $10, which includes a generous afternoon tea.

The 2016 series features five concerts offering a wonderful range of music for all tastes, performed by some of the best known Adelaide names in music.

The opening concert on 20 July presents rising opera star mezzo-soprano Charlie Kelso. Although Charlie has just completed her studies at the Elder Conservatorium she has already had wide experienced on stage.

She sang solo with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in Mendelsohn's Midsummer Night's Dream Suite and appeared on stage with the American film composer Danny Elfman at the 2015 Adelaide Festival of Arts in the Entertainment Centre, when he presented his music from the films of Tim Burton.

You may have seen and heard Charlie in the Elder Conservatorium opera productions: The Magic Flute and Hansel and Gretel and last year she made her professional debut with Co-Opera in their Intermezzo series.

Her program at Kent Town will include a variety of repertoire, with art songs and opera from Britten to Bizet, Mozart and Purcell, accompanied by Mark Sandon.

It's traditional in Concerts @ Kent Town that lovers of organ music are well catered for. The JE Dodd organ will be part of the program for all five concerts.

Performing on the organ for the first concert of the year is Peter Kelsall of Pilgrim Church. Peter has given recitals in the Adelaide Town Hall, St. Peter's Cathedral, Pilgrim Church and at various locations for the Organ Music Society of Adelaide of which he was a committee member for a number of years.

Peter has played with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra on many occasions, including performances of Saint Saens' Organ Symphony, Holst's Planets, Handel's Messiah, Mahler's Symphony no. 2 and the 2010 Adelaide Festival performances of Ligeti's opera Le Grande Macabre and Mahler's Symphony no. 8.He has also played on a number of occasions with the Adelaide Art Orchestra.

Peter has performed with many Adelaide choirs, including the Adelaide Chamber Singers, Syntony, Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, Graduate Singers, Corinthian Singers, Elder Conservatorium Chorale and the Adelaide and Flinders Universities Choral Societies.

In 1995 Peter was appointed Organist and Choir Director at Pilgrim Uniting Church in the city where he continues to build on this church's strong musical tradition. An honorary life member of the Adelaide University Choral Society, he has been their Musical Director since 1997. With AUCS he has conducted a wide range of repertoire, from Palestrina to Pink Floyd and most things in between.

Peter's program will include works by Bach, Langlais and Couperin

Concerts at Kent Town take place each month from July to November.
