Billy Crystal's 700 Sundays Breaks Box Office Records at D.C.'s National Theater

In the inaugural week of its Washington D.C. run, the first stop of a six-city tour, Billy Crystal's Tony Award-winning Broadway hit 700 Sundays shattered the box office record to become the highest-grossing play ever at Washington D.C.'s National Theatre. For the week ending September 13, 2009, the production grossed $939,578 in only 7 performances, breaking the National Theatre record of $713,258 previously held by Dame Edna: Back with a Vengeance! in February, 2003. Mr. Crystal's 700 Sundays stills holds the record for highest-grossing non-musical production in Broadway history, taking in $1,061,688 for the week ending May 22, 2005 at Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre.

Kicking off a six city American tour of limited engagements, 700 Sundays will also play Philadelphia's Merriam Theater (September 30 - October 11), Dallas' Winspear Opera House (November 17 - 22), Palm Beach's Kravis Center (December 3 - 6), Miami's Arsht Opera House (December 9 - 13), and Atlanta's Cobb Theater (December 16 - 20).

Written and performed by Mr. Crystal, 700 Sundays features additional content by Alan Zweibel and is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff.

The show won the 2005 Tony Award for Special Theatrical Experience and both the 2005 Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Solo Performance.

Following the Broadway production, Billy played sold out limited engagements of 700 SUNDAYS in Toronto, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles, breaking box office records in each city. Billy then took 700 SUNDAYS to Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, where both engagements sold out upon announcement and won the 2007 Helpmann Award for Best Special Event.

Produced by Janice Crystal, Larry Magid and Face Productions, 700 SUNDAYS has a scenic design by David F. Weiner, lighting design by David Lee Cuthbert, projection design by Michael Clark and sound design is by Steve Canyon Kennedy.
