Hell in a Handbag Productions is concluding its 21st season with the world premiere musical parody Murder, ReWrote, playing August 10 – September 16, 2023 at The Den Theatre (Upstairs Mainstage) in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. The press opening is Sunday, August 13 at 7 pm. This wildly funny satirical farce questions why, in a world of bailed-out banks and overpriced prescription drugs, theft is only a crime when it is committed by those truly in need, centering on humble housewife Antonia (Kaili Hollister) who joins a revolt of women at the local supermarket as they are all hungry and fed up by rising prices and stagnant wages. Determined to live with dignity and rejecting an austere diet of dog food and birdseed which is about all Antonia can afford to buy on her husband Giovvanni's (Jeremie Loncka) wages working on the production line at a local factory, the women's protest escalates and looting ensues.

American Theater Company (ATC) opens musical comedy Xanadu, the final production of its Legacy Season, this Sunday, June 5. Presented as a tribute to ATC's late Artistic Director PJ Paparelli-a not-so-secret fan of this camp classic-Xanadu is directed by Lili-Anne Brown and runs at ATC now through July 17, 2016. The production has music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar and a book by Douglas Carter Beane, based on the 1980 Universal Pictures film of the same title.

Beck Center for the Arts presents the regional premiere of Heathers: The Musical May 27 through July 2, 2016 in the intimate Studio Theater. Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 7 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are now on sale. Please note Sunday 7 p.m. curtain. This production contains strong language and content.

Though the weather is still warm, soon the leaves will be turning and the Fall 2015 theatre season will be upon us. Here's a list of some of the offerings from September through December.

Some people go to the theatre to be educated. Some go to see/listen to a pleasing combination of music and lyrics enclosed in a story. Others go to just have a good time.
