BWW Review: SINATRA 101 Puts You at the Sands with Frank and his Big Band
by Shari Barrett - Nov 29, 2016

As a lifelong fan of Frank Sinatra thanks in part to my Mom being one of the bobbysoxers who fawned over him as I did for the Beatles, I was thrilled to jump at the chance to attend SINATRA 101 at the El Portal in Noho on November 26, 2016 at one of the 2 shows they did that date. Since 2011, Matt Mauser and the 101 Big Band led by Pete Jacobs have been playing Frank Sinatra's greatest hits with high-octane arrangements. Their collaboration captures Sinatra at the height of his career at the Sands Hotel in early 1966, backed by Quincy Jones conducting the Count Basie Orchestra.

BWW Review: LINES IN THE DUST - Riveting, Edifying and Upsetting at CPT

In 2011, Kelly Williams-Bolar served a 10-day jail sentence for illegally sending her children to a suburban school outside of her Akron, Ohio district. The sentence disqualified Williams-Bolar from getting her accreditation as a teacher. A storm of protests, both pro and con, quickly followed the sentence and a later pardon by the governor.

BWW BLOG EXCLUSIVE: CHIX 6 Hits Comic Con!
by Jessica Lewis - Oct 19, 2011

Hello again, Broadwayworld! It's Lourds Lane, book/music/lyrics writer of CHIX 6, and also performing as the violin playing misfit, RISE, in the show. We've had 3 weeks of shows and it's clear that CHIX 6 is resonating with audiences. We've received standing ovations every single show. This is more of an accomplishment than you might realize since we've played many shows to the Queens Theatre subscription audience where the average age was 80. No joke. In the first two weeks of performances, it felt like the Saturday matinee crowd would tell their parents to see the show which made Sunday matinee crowd even OLDER. The cast, who are mostly all Broadway veterans, have schooled me that typically, old folks don't stand up, even if they like the show. But with our show, these octogenarians jump to their feet without fail. 'Oh my gawsh, these kids are so tehhhlented!' As for the teenagers in the crowd, who've been showing up this past week, both girls AND boys have become rabid repeat fans. People wait outside the stage door weeping. Something is clearly working.
