Five Course Love, a quintet of humorous and witty vignettes about true love, plays January 24-February 16, 2014. The comedic rock musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson will run June 6-29, 2014. This trio of shows will be directed by Steven Meerdink, Minneapolis Musical Theatre's artistic director. Gillespie Concert Organ fills the concert hall with the nostalgia of holiday classics during Pacific Symphony's annual "Holiday Organ Spectacular," part of the Pedals and Pipes series. The evening ignites with the talent of virtuoso organist Todd Wilson, Broadway soprano Lisa Vroman and accompanying Symphony principal musicians: Timothy Landauer, cello; Benjamin Smolen, flute; Barry Perkins, trumpet; and Mindy Ball, harp. Visiting the Symphony for the fourth year, Wilson, head of the organ department at The Cleveland Institute of Music and curator of the E.M. Skinner pipe organ at Severance Hall, also performs organ works by Bach, Widor, Carter and Purvis. The Film Society of Lincoln Center Showcases Matías Piñeiro, 7/12-21

The Film Society of Lincoln Center will showcase the work of Argentinian filmmaker Matias Piñeiro during the upcoming Latinbeat film festival (July 12 - 21) and will simultaneously open two of his films, Viola and Rosalinda, theatrically on July 12th. Latinbeat will play host to the NY premiere of Piñeiro's 2007 film The Stolen Man/El hombre robado and 2009 film They All Lie/Todos mienten. Viola returns to the Film Society after debuting at this year's New Directors/New Films and will be released in the US through Cinema Guild. All screenings of Viola at the Film Society of Lincoln Center will be followed by his short film Rosalinda. (more...)

BWW Reviews: American Century's Hilarious, Surreal 'Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Momma's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad'

Written in the late 1950's in a fine post-graduate frenzy, Kopit's play was inspired as much by the European avant-garde as by the angst of the Eisenhower years. Director Tyler Herman has done a great job in his first production, creating the anarchic, bizarre feel that Kopit's play requires, with Katie Wertz's surreal set and Jacy Barber's biologically-correct costumes (for the fish and plant life) creating just the right off-kilter atmosphere. In our age of 20-somethings suffering from arrested development, they say “25 is the new 15.” This certainly was not true at the Met auditions concert (formally, the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Grand Finals Concert, a real mouthful!). At the opera house, Sunday afternoon, the concert showcased nine competitors, all between 24 and 29 but mature artists with poise, acting ability and, yes, voices definitely worth hearing again.
