TBTB to Open 2008-2009 Season With 'The Middle Ages'

Following the success of last season's THE COCKTAIL HOUR, Theater Breaking Through Barriers (formerly Theater By The Blind) presents another comedy by A.R. Gurney. TBTB will begin its 2008-2009 season with THE MIDDLE AGES, on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 7PM at the Kirk Theatre, Theatre Row. The official opening will be on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at 3PM. Footlight to Present New Musical Adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, Begin. 12/6

The Footlight Players, South Carolina's longest-producing theatre company, is proud to bring this musical interpretation of A Christmas Carol to the region for the first time with a talented cast, crew, and a score to knock your socks off in tow. A Christmas Carol tells Charles Dickens' timeless tale adapted by Bobby Cronin with original music, lyrics, and vocal arrangements by Angelyn Benson and Bobby Cronin. The story comes alive on stage December 6, 7, 12-14, and 19-21 at 8:00pm as well as December 8, 15, and 22 at 3:00pm. (more...)

BWW Review: Group rep Offers Engaging ANOTHER ANTIGONE

Playwright A.R. Gurney, best known for Love Letters and The Cocktail Hour, has written some very topical plays, among them the lesser known 1988 Another Antigone, on the surface a dispute between a college professor of the classics and a creative student, but on a far greater level, exposing the repercussions of anti-semitism and the behind the scenes manipulation of courses and staff by a typical college administration in today's world of education. Produced in the new black box theatre upstairs at Group rep, Antigone is evenly directed by Linda Aznauer and extremely well acted by its ensemble of four, currently through February 7, only.
